Our Story

The history of Mylands begins in 1884, when “”Honest”” John Mylands opened his modest store in the heart of Lambeth. Unlike other artists of the day, John was completely passionate about the art of color, insisting on using only the finest materials to create vibrant, flawless colors of guaranteed quality.

Today, Mylands is still in Lambeth as the last paint manufacturer to remain in London.

In 1985, Mylands products received the highest Royal Warrant recognition.

MYLANDS still maintains a time-honored, traditional approach to producing high quality paints and finishes while making the most of the latest technological advances in paint development.

Film and television

MYLANDS has long been associated with cinema, television and theater industries, having been at the heart of British cinema and television since the dawn of the film industry. Since 1928, MYLANDS has been an established name in the English film industry.

Most paints are still made with original formulations using natural earth pigments, a rarity in modern paint production. This gives the paints a unique quality ideal for stage construction, which is why they are widely used in theater, film and television to this day.

For many years MYLANDS have been featured in some of the world’s most successful productions over the years, including James Bond, Harry Potter, Pirates of the Caribbean, Downton Abbey, Game of Thrones, Mr. Selfridge, Cinderella “”And others.
